Labor Day Sales, the Northwoods Way
Labor Day is a popular time for mall shops and online retailers alike to capitalize on the transitioning seasons, the last-minute scramble to get all the back-to-school essentials, and an extra weekend day of leisurely shopping time to draw in patrons with major sales. As an alternative to shopping at big businesses this Labor Day weekend, consider seeking out unique events in the Northwoods where you can find one-of-a-kind items and support the local economy and community members. Here are five special sales events taking place over the long weekend.
Saint Germain Flea Market – Saint Germain
St. Germain Firefighters Association holds one of the largest flea markets in the Midwest every Monday from Memorial Day through Labor Day, making Monday, September 2, your last chance to attend this great event this year. The Saint Germain Flea Market takes place at the town pavilion behind St. Germain Fire Department. Vendors come from all over the Midwest to sell arts, crafts, and other treasures.
Minocqua Farmers Market – Minocqua
Local farmers, artisans, and nonprofit groups gather at lively the Minocqua Farmers Market throughout the summer and early autumn to offer a range of agricultural products to the public. The market fosters agricultural participation and community building. Check out the quality goods on Monday, September 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. in Lower Torpy Park on Highway 51.
Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale, Arts and Crafts Show, and Farmers Market – Eagle River
On Sunday, September 1, meander down the charming streets of downtown Eagle River and peruse the shops’ Labor Day Sidewalk Sale specials and the handcrafted goods at the Arts and Crafts Show. Then head over to the Farmers Market, north of the bridge on Highway 45, to connect with our local agricultural community members and buy fresh produce and other agriculture-related products.
Zurko Flea Market – Antigo
On August 31 and September 1, come to the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo to find all sorts of interesting treasures. The Zurko Flea Market is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $2, but parking at the fairgrounds is free.
Amish Consignment Auction – Shawano
The Amish Consignment Auction is your opportunity to bring home heirloom-quality quilts, furniture, crafts, and antiques. Come to this Shawano event hungry, as there is a bake sale and a lunch stand with freshly made donuts, pies, and sandwiches.
