For some, Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of a fun and active summer season.  Many areas offer festive events to kickstart summer – some of which are based upon viewing unique cars, boats, airplanes, snowmobiles and other motorized and non-motorized vehicles.  Some popular events include these 3 listed below. These shows offer opportunities to view automobiles (and more!), enjoy tasty treats and visit with friends.  Check out the details of each event below.

Wheels, Wings & Watercraft Show

MANITOWISH WATERS – Race on into Manitowish Waters for the Wheels, Wings & Watercraft Show on Saturday, May 27. The event will be held on the grounds of the Manitowish Waters Community Center, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers an awesome addition of Aircrafts for your viewing pleasure this year!

Enjoy a great day of classic and custom car, aircraft, and watercraft viewing, live music, demonstrations, food and beverages offered for sale by Little Bohemia, free kids’ games, and a thrilling awards presentation. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners will be presented in all classes.  Overall People’s Choice Best of Show Award and Kid’s Choice Award will be voted on by the public.  Best of Show Award will be voted on by the participants.

Spend the day admiring classic and custom cars, aircrafts, trucks, canoes, and outboard motors that are among the best of collections in northern Wisconsin. Educational and informational booths will be available to learn about water safety, the impact of cars and boats on the area, managing invasive species and more. Visit manitowishwaters.org for more information.

Visit with old friends and make new ones. Spend the day or stay longer. Relax in the beauty of Manitowish Waters and Vilas County.

Make EVEN More Memories at Main Street Memories Car Show

TOMAHAWK – Head to Tomahawk’s Main Street on Sunday, May 28 for the 29th annual Main Street Memories Car Show and Craft Fair. This rain or shine event hosts music, food, shopping, family entertainment, and more! Four blocks of historic main street on West Wisconsin Avenue are blocked off to showcase show cars from all around the greater Northwoods and beyond.

Sponsored by the Tomahawk Main Street Inc, Main Street Memories Car Show draws more than 300 entries, ranging from muscle cars and trucks to motorcycles. There might even be one or two high-end exotics!  Take a step back in time to marvel at some automobile greats or fast forward to new technology showstoppers. Showcasing beloved cars and trucks from the 1950’s and earlier times, as well as later models that featured advanced technology.  You can bet there is something for everyone to appreciate. Owners are perched nearby to answer questions and perhaps to field an offer to purchase from an awestruck would-be buyer!

Food and craft vendors will be plentiful and guess what?! Kiddos (and the young at heart!) have the chance to enjoy the petting zoo and games! Plan to work up a sweat as you dance to some jamming beats courtesy of a live DJ and swivel those hips in the hula-hoop contest!  Need a break from the elements? Be sure to pop on into the main street businesses to fill your belly, get refreshed and shop ‘til you drop. Head back outside to check out the unique and quality items at the craft show and to view the Car Show Awards show.

Over 50 trophies are won, along with the prestigious Best of Show and People’s Choice. There are trophies for Youngest Participant and Club Participation as well.  The Tomahawk Mayor even gets involved and hands out a Mayors Choice Award, one he personally created! You don’t want to miss this downtown tradition. As always, spectator admission is FREE!
