The Sweetest Time of the Year at Northern Wisconsin’s Maple Farms

March and April’s grab-bag weather can be a challenging time of year for winter sports enthusiasts in northern Wisconsin. But while snowmobilers and ice fishers might not appreciate the deteriorating conditions of the trails and the ice this time of year, these temperatures—above freezing during the day and below freezing at night—provide just the right conditions for maple syrup production.
Maple products were one of Wisconsin’s earliest agricultural products. In fact, Native Americans and European settlers collected maple sap long before Wisconsin gained status as a state. Still today, Wisconsin ranks among the top maple-syrup-producing states in the nation, and here are two upcoming events in northern Wisconsin that provide opportunities for you to learn more about maple syrup production—and maybe even taste the sweet stuff, too.
